Artist's Story

These scythes, now retired from decades of hard work in the fields, stand proudly against a weather-beaten shutter. So efficient were their cutting abilities that witnesses insist when in the hands of a skilled user, they could cut hay closer than many tractor powered mowers. Here, the rusted blades display the scars of many seasons harvesting crops of wheat and hay. NOTE: Retired by Time was included in the 2011 Georgia Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibition. Since then, it has been included in a number of exhibits. It was recently added to the ‘currently available for sale’ category. – Tim Myrick
