Every day - whether in the garden or through a rain-spattered window - we rejoice and share with each other the the growth and changes that literally happen overnight.... and the feeling of hope they inspire.

Tim and I have gardened together for 30+ years - 10 of them in our current home - transforming a bare plot with soil and drainage problems (More about that here) into a lush perennial garden with permaculture and water garden features.
We credit gardening with improving our physical health, emotional and relationship stability, and our hope and optimism. We're proud that we've been able to create our dream garden - doing all the labor ourselves - despite budget constraints and occasional health issues (many of them caused by overdoing it, but that's what happens when passion and commitment overtake you!)
This is the year we decided to expand food production by at least 50%... without disturbing the perennial garden and landscape design. We've enjoyed the challenge of finding ways to grow more food affordably, and it has been simpler than we expected. More on that in future blogs.
A 'few' photos of the May into early June garden follow. We've had so many 'how' and 'why' questions that we decided to respond in the form of brief blogs on various subjects - all the fun and challenges that make up the Art of the Garden. Let us know if there are topics you would like to know more about. We would love to hear from you.
In future blogs, we will share some of the details, such as our recipe for perennial garden soil, propagating from seed, creating a habitat for bees, butterflies and other beneficials, Tim's bonsai collection, Louie's garden art, and in general how we upcycle, re-use, and otherwise create beauty on a DIY budget.
