Respite
Even as a curious young man growing up on a North Florida farm, I always found scenes like this intriguing and visually moving. This collection of old rusted scythes and the strong shadows they cast on the crumbling walls became the inspiration for “Respite” because it took me back in time the very moment I saw it. Growing up in a rural area surrounded by forests and farms, the awe-inspiring beauty of nature became my first muse as a young artist. I was always engaged- in one way or another with the wildlife of the farm, including the many insects. In “Respite” my goal is to invite you into this world in hopes that you will begin to see the natural beauty that exists all around you in all of its many forms. The rusted scythes silhouetted against the sun-drenched wall created an inviting resting spot for a couple Damsel Flies as the hard vertical shadows move you through the composition.
