Respite - my NEW original watercolor of damselflies resting on antique scythes... inspired by emerging spring life and the call of the garden.

Old scythes leaning against a farm shed attract damselflies to rest

Artist's Story

This scene brought back memories of growing up on a farm, where I often saw rusty tools standing or lying around. There was something special about the way the sunlight made even the rusted metal glow against the wall. The combination of the natural beauty of sun and shadow and the obvious presence of man – the scythes, the rusted hasp and peeling boards - created an extraordinary visual statement. While the structure of the painting is about the scythes and how they appear against the rusted wood, I decided to place the damselflies in the setting. It is a natural place where damselflies can take a break – a respite in a safe and sunny space. - Tim Myrick | February 2024
