#TBT Fiber Art - 2019

This piece - titled Ripe Seedpod - came very close to being banished to the purgatory of abandoned projects. It did not develop as originally intended - as is true of so much of art and life. It is shorter, wider, and in many respects - very different from the original concept. And if I may say so - far superior.

At the time, I had became bored, disappointed in the original idea, and somewhat directionless [a not uncommon phase in many projects.]

While deciding whether to put it 'on ice' for a bit and work on any of the dozens of ideas I had laying around, I decided to take another run at organizing my chaotic studio space - and I ran across some natural shell 'coins' I had acquired a couple years earlier. The entire concept developed in my brain immediately.

I almost decided to sell it at one point, but so far, I've found that the pleasure of seeing it displayed in my home is more enriching than the value the current art market is likely to place on it.
